How to transfer mini DV to computer
This article is for people who are not familiar with DV camcorders, and want to know how to transfer their videos onto the computer, then burn it to a DVD for editing or backing up.
Basically all DV camcorders use firewire. Most new computers come with firewire ports built in. The firewire port will most likely be located right next to your usb ports, they are larger ports with one side tapered off. If your computer does not come with firewire ports you can buy a cardbus (most are plus and play) for your laptop or an expansion card for your pc. You'll also need a firewire cable with a 4-pin (small connects to camcorder) connector on one end and a 6-pin (large connects to computer).
Once you connect your DV camcorder to your computer. You can capture the video in basically any video editing software. If you don't have video editing software DV to Computer works just fine, which can capture video on hard drive to cameras' native AVI DV format or directly to MPEG-2 and save your computer free space.
Step 1: Download and install DV Video Converter on your PC

Step 2: Run DV Video Converter and select an input video file
Run DV Video Converter, and click the Browse... button opposite to select your input file.
You can load several files to the program by using the + button and delete some of them from the list by pressing the ¨C button. To change the sequence of the loaded files click one of the arrow buttons.
Step 3: Set up the conversion parameters and output file path
Press the To DVD button to convert your file to DVD format. To select your output file path click the Browse... button opposite to the Output File Name field. In the Burn To dropdown list you can choose one of the available preset profiles.
Step 4: Convert your video file and burn it to disc
Press the Convert Now! button to start the conversion process.
It will take up some time depending on your system configuration, file size and conversion settings. As soon as the conversion is finished the main window of DV Video Burner integrated into DV Video Converter will open.
So after several clicks you are able to convert DV video to a DVD disc.
